OSHA Outreach Training Program
Construction Industry Safety and Health
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Outreach Training Program is a voluntary training program through which OSHA authorizes trainers to teach construction industry occupational safety, health standards and policy to promoted workplace safety and health. This program has promoted workplace safety and health by authorizing trainers since 1971.
Construction industry outreach trainers like "i-work-safe.com, Inc." are authorized to conduct 10 and 30-hour construction industry outreach courses and receive OSHA course completion cards to issue to the students. Staff from the OSHA Office of Training and Education periodically attend outreach training classes to observe training, obtain feedback from the trainer and the students on the training, and ensure awareness of the outreach guidelines and the materials and assistance that are available.
There are two different construction industry outreach classes. One is designed for construction workers and therefore emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards. The other is for foreman and supervisors who have a responsibility for the on site health and safety of their workers. Both presentations are tailored to the needs and understanding of the audience. This training is not a bureaucratic exercise – it may save a life and allow you to continue to provide for your family.
Quizzes and tests are used to ensure that all student understands key objectives.
10-HOUR CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY OUTREACH TRAINING PROGRAM
The 10-hour program is intended to provide a variety of training on Construction safety and health to entry level workers. Three topic hours are mandatory and three hours are chosen from the optional topic list based on the areas most relevant to attending students. The remaining four hours of class are used to teach other construction industry related standards or policies and / or expand on the required topics. The 10-hour classes are designed for workers and emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.
30-HOUR CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY OUTREACH TRAINING PROGRAM
The 30-hour program is intended to provide a variety of training to foreman and supervisors how have safety responsibility for their workers. Six topic hours are mandatory and fourteen hours must be chosen from the optional topic list. The remaining 10 hours are used to teach other construction industry standards or policies or expand on the required topics. Because the 30-hour class is designed for foreman and supervisors it not only emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, but also compliance standards.
OUTREACH TRAINING LOCATION
Training sessions are normally conducted at the "i-work-safe.com, Inc." facility 247 Washington St., Stoughton, MA 02072. This location can accommodate up to 20 students.
Companies that would like to have up to 50 students trained at one time or prefer to use an alternate more convenient facility can make a request for special arrangements. There is a $1250.00 per day minimum charge for alternate location sessions PLUS any alternate facility and travel related expenses.
Four to six weeks advanced notice is usually required for special arrangements. If special arrangements are required, be sure to get an alternate location confirmation before submitting a registration.
